
Peter Hunt founded Mutuo in 2001 as the first cross mutual sector body to promote co-operative and mutual business to opinion formers and decision makers. He is also co-founder of Supporters Direct, the football supporters’ initiative, which went on to establish over 100 supporters’ trusts at professional football clubs. Before this, Peter was General Secretary of the UK Co-operative Party for ten years. He has led the parliamentary teams that piloted five private members bills through the UK Parliament, working with all parties to update co-operative and mutual law. He has advised the UK Coalition Government on its plans to mutualise the Post Office Ltd and in 2012 published Plurality, stewardship, and enaggement: The report of the Ownership commisssion.
From 2015-2020, Peter worked with the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), co-authoring The People’s Business - Framing the new narrative: A mutual and co-operative approach to the economy and society. In 2021, Mutuo led a campaignagainst the demutalisation of LV=, a UK mutual insurance company set up in 1885.
