The International Co-operative Alliance was founded in London, England on 19 August 1895 during the 1st Co-operative Congress. In attendance were delegates from co-operatives from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, India, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia, and the USA. The International Cooperative Alliance advocates the interests and success of cooperatives, providing a global voice and forum for knowledge, expertise and co-ordinated action.

Co-operatives Build a Better World
The 2025 United Nations International Year of Co-operatives (IYC2025) theme will be Co-operatives Build a Better World, showcasing the enduring global impact cooperatives have everywhere. This theme puts a spotlight on how the cooperative model is an essential solution to overcome many global challenges and continues to play an important role in accelerating efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

ICA CCR Europe Research Conference 2025
Cooperative Identity – Who we are as a movement, a form of organization and as cooperators?
The International Cooperative Alliance Committee on Cooperative Research Europe (ICA CCR Europe) conference will be organised in Helsinki, Finland on the 12th to 13th of June , 2025.
Prior to the conference in Helsinki, a Young Scholars day will be held in Joensuu on June 11th. Designed for master’s, PhD and post-doctoral students, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in dynamic, in-depth discussions, receive feedback on their work and establish life-long networks.
The aim of the conference theme is to inspire traditional as well as contemporary perspectives from which to study co-operatives and economic cooperation. Our aim is to encourage scholars to approach the main theme in diverse, versatile and innovative ways.
ICA CCR Global Research Conference
Intercooperation for out common futures

The ICA CCR Global Research Conference 2025 will bring together numerous stakeholders from the international cooperative ecosystem, including practicioners and policymakers. In addition to discussing the role of cooperatives in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, the conference will also be a great opportunity to explore topics related to cooperation, including cooperative governance, business models, and education.
Hosted by the Institut international des coopératives Alphonse-et-Dorimène-Desjardins (IICADD), participants will enjoy the new state-of-the-art HEC Montréal Hélène-Desmarais building in downtown Montreal. The conference is organized in partnership with CASC (Canadian Association for Studies in Cooperation), which will hold its annual meeting as part of the conference.
