I hope you are keeping well.
We have had to revisit the planned programme of activity for the year, and look at what we can deliver in the current climate. This provides you with a few updates.
Events to attend (virtually)
Sonja Novkovic Lecture
We’re pleased to be putting on our first virtual lecture, delivered by Sonja Novkovic: Humanism, participation and co-operative governance. The lecture will take place on 29 June at 6.30pm. Full details, including how to register, are available from our website.
Andrew Bibby lecture We previously advertised a lecture taking place in Hebden Bridge. This too will now take place online. Andrew Bibby will deliver a lecture on ‘reassessing the early productive cooperatives: worker democracy then and now’.
The lecture will take place on Friday 3 July at 7.30pm. Full details, including how to register, are available here.
Our AGM We have decided that in light of current Government guidance, to ensure our Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place on time, we will hold our AGM virtually on 23 September at 4pm. Further details will follow in due course. By holding our AGM online we maximise opportunity for participation and are able to more flexibly deliver our annual conference.
Good progress has been made on the planning of this year’s annual conference, scheduled for 2nd to 4th October at Lincoln University.
We are actively reviewing the COVID-19 restrictions and their impact and have deferred a final decision on how the event will take place. We are committed to holding the conference between 2nd and 4th October, either at Lincoln or online and we will be letting members know the details as the COVID-19 restrictions become clear.
The call for papers has been issued and remains open until 30 May. Further details, including on how to submit, are available online.
At the AGM last year, members asked about the role of Secretary of UKSCS. This is a voluntary role that has not been filled for some time. We can however announce that the Board has co-opted Francesca Gagliardi as a trustee, and to fill the role of secretary. You can read Francesca’s biography, along with those of the other trustees, on our website.
We will be sending out membership renewal details in June. We’ve delayed sending these out this year while we transitioned from one membership system to another.
